Customer mapping for Department of Resources data and future economic opportunities research and strategy

The Department of Resources  is seeking Proposals for Customer mapping for Department of Resources’ data and future economic opportunities research and strategy.

The Department of Resources’ 2021 strategic plan recognises data as a significant asset. To realise the value of our data, our data must be used in analysis for knowledge and insights that in turn support evidence driven decisions and services. To this end, the department is developing a data resources development plan. Some of the aims of the data resources development plan are to:

  • increase the availability and use of departmental data assets by our staff, customers, and stakeholders.
  • increase customer and stakeholder satisfaction through improved data resources access.
  • identify opportunities to provide economic opportunities through the availability of trustworthy and reusable data assets.

In very broad terms, the Department’s data/information stores and exchange fit into four dimensions:

  • 1D – data without spatial connotation, including correspondence, emails, publications, economic and industry performance statistics etc
  • 2D – data with basic spatial connotation including maps and geographic references
  • 3D – data with complete spatial connotation including digital models and visualisations
  • 4D – temporal information and intelligence that enables or enhances understanding of current status (e.g employment in the resources sector), past performance (e.g export volumes) and future predictive capability.

This scope of work focuses on the second and third dimensions, seeking thought leadership in how the departments data can drive public and private economic opportunities e.g. existing or emerging industry based on the fourth dimension information and intelligence.
