Koombooloomba Hydro Power Station Mid Life Refurbishment
Refurbishment of the machine is driven principally by the need to repair the Kaplan Turbine, however maintenance opportunities also exist for the Generator and balance of plant. A key element of the refurbishment shall be the investigation and modification of the K5 hydraulic Power Unit to provide failsafe closure of the Turbine Inlet Valve and Runner Blades. The machine has been exposed to numerous prolonged overspeed events since 2000 as a consequence of failures primarily attributed to faults in the Hydraulic Power Unit. This outage also provides the opportunity to carry out preventative maintenance on a number of plant items due to the dewatering of the complete station to carry out the repairs and refurbishment work of the Turbine.
