Queensland Flood Mapping Program
The Queensland Government tabled its detailed response to recommendations 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6 of the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry’s (QldFCoI). The Queensland Flood Mapping Program (QFMP) aims to provide flood mapping, flood investigation reports, flood event animations, flood models and relevant flood information to local governments, relevant state government agencies and disaster management groups, as well as make it publicly available for community awareness, preparedness and mitigation.
The Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QldRA) delivered the first two phases of the QFMP and established the FloodCheck website portal and associated database.
Responsibility for Phase 3 of the QFMP has been transitioned to the Department of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRM), along with the requirement to refresh, enhance and administer the FloodCheck web portal. Phase 3a is currently underway and includes the development and delivery of flood hazard modelling and mapping for 51 towns throughout Queensland.
Phase 3b, the Gold Project, continues to implement the QldFCoI recommendations by undertaking additional flood hazard mapping for Disaster Management purposes for up to 25 flood risk towns across Queensland, targeting the 143 Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecast locations.
The project is funded by the Natural Disaster Resilience Program (NDRP).
