In 2008 the Queensland Government expressed interest in investigating the merits of submitting an Australian (Gold Coast-based) bid for the Games to the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA). A Commonwealth Games – Gold Coast Reference Committee was established to advise on the feasibility of a Gold Coast bid for the Games. The stage one investigations, which concluded in November 2008, included preliminary identification and analysis of the location for the Commonwealth Games Village (ecoVillage). Based on the findings of the stage one investigations, further work was undertaken by the Queensland Government to determine the costs and feasibility of a bid to the ACGA. This process resulted in the Parklands site within the emerging Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct (GCHKP) being nominated as the location for the ecoVillage. No other sites are proposed for the ecoVillage.
