Review and Update of the 'Field Program Design for Injection Trials in the Central Condamine Alluvium'

The Healthy Headwaters Coal Seam Gas Water Feasibility Study was completed in April 2013 and undertook a series of activities to investigate the risks of extracting and using CSG water, and analysing likely supply and demand (Activities 1 to 7) and assessing specific opportunities for using CSG water in the Queensland Murray Darling Basin (Activities 8 and 9).

Activity 8 focused on the Central Condamine Alluvium (CCA), which has been identified as a target for the injection of treated CSG water as a means of proactively recharging the CCA aquifer. Two studies (Activity 8.2) were completed:

  • The Phase 1 study (KCB, 2012) identified and assessed seven shallow and five deep target areas suitable for injection trials.
  • The Phase 2 Study (SWS, 2013) advanced the Phase 1 work and included design of a field program for injection trials at the identified sites using infiltration trenches and injection bores.
