The Gateway Visitor Centres – Master Planning Project aligns with the Queensland Ecotourism Plan 2013 – 2020 to deliver world class experiences, facilitate product development and innovation and raise the profile of Queensland’s ecotourism experiences.
Key objectives of the Gateway Visitor Centre Master Plans and Directions papers are to increase visitation and improve visitor experiences at the Centre’s. Major investments have been made in infrastructure development in 2014/15 which will be constructed by mid2015. Significant operational investment was made in 2014/15 to review visitor experiences, align the Gateway Visitor Centres with the new Qld National Parks (QNP) consumer brand and begin developing the QNP’s Gateway Visitor Centres signature “Experiences”.
QNP consumer research identified that Rangers represent unity, safety and a wealth of knowledge. Most importantly, they are charged with extending a warm, invitational hand to visitors, enthusiastically welcoming and encouraging curiosity and exploration. With the role of the QPWS Ranger (as defined in the Brand design guidelines) now more prevalent in marketing and communications it is a priority to be reviewing the GVC visitor experiences, clarifying the ‘promise’, signature experiences and key messages for each of the centres and developing new Ranger-led products.
Organisation of workshops at each of the three Gateway Visitor Centres of staff and stakeholders (QPWS to provide list): Mon Repos Turtle Centre, David Fleay Wildlife Park, and Walkabout Creek. Facilitation of the workshops to produce promises, signature experiences and key messages with a high level of staff and stakeholder engagement and ownership.
