Helicopter Surveillance Bitou Bush
A low level aerial survey is required every 2-3 years to survey field sites that are targeted for bitou bush eradication. All sites known to support bitou bush are surveyed as well as adjacent sites to detect and map plants in the eradication zone and make sure that adjacent high risk sites have not become infested.
Bitou bush is highly invasive and is targeted for eradication in Queensland. The aerial survey enables trained BQ staff to survey large areas of native vegetation that are very difficult to access on the ground. It is an efficient means of covering a lot of ground in a relatively short space of time.
