The project focuses on future planning for waste infrastrcuture in Queensland and is supported by prioirties and objectives in the strategy that identify management, treatment and disposal and consequently infrastrucuture and planning as opportunities to meet the strategies vision.
This project will be undertaken in two steps with step 1 being preparation and consultation on a waste and resource recovery infrastructure report for the state in consultation with the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP). Once the report is prepared, step 2 will involve the preparation of and consultation on draft regional waste infrastructure plans for the following regions:
Far North Queensland - including the local government areas of Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Cook, Mareeba, Tablelands, Douglas, Croydon, Etheridge, Yarrabah and Wujal Wujal
South-east Queensland - including the local government areas of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Somerset, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Logan, Redlands, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and Ipswich
South-west and Darling Downs - including the local government areas of Toowoomba, Western Downs, Goondiwindi, South Burnett and Southern Downs
