The Department of Environment & Resource Management (DERM) maintains a substantial computer network infrastructure and a range of major corporate business applications. These systems are deployed throughout the DERM network which consists of a state-wide Wide Area Network (WAN). The Personal Computers (PCs) operate on Windows XP operating system and the network servers operate on the Windows 2003 operating system.

DERM offices are dispersed across the state. Sizes of offices vary from a few users to medium regional offices with 20+ users to major offices like Brisbane with 50+ users. The majority of offices have local servers. The challenges presented by the decentralised IT environment are further complicated by the complex range of user requirements that exist across the state. User needs vary from standard office applications accessed in the office, remote users accessing office applications, and data and graphical intense applications such as Geographic Information System (GIS) in addition to the over the counter customer services that present the ‘public face’ of the Department.
Over recent years the DERM Water Systems unit has been developing a Structured Application Framework (SAF) for water business systems. This contract will provide maintenance support for this software.
