The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services provides funding to non-government organisations to support vulnerable families to address multiple and/or complex needs and build their capacity to safely care for and protect their children. This investment aims to strengthen the protective factors within the family to ensure vulnerable children and young people can safely live at home, and for families to:
become stronger and more resilient
have improved connection to family, culture and community
have improved life skills
be safe and protected from harm.
The fundamental intent of the Community Based Intake and Referral Initiative (operating under the brand Family and Child Connect) is to create infrastructure which enables families under stress to access the support they need as early as possible and without involvement of the statutory child protection system.
The three key functions of Family and Child Connect services are:
information, assessment, advice and/or referral for support
