Fire Management Strategy for the Indigenous Joint Management Areas (IJMAs) on North Stradbroke Island and Peel Island

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services (QPWS) and Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC), representing the Traditional Owners, jointly manage the Indigenous Joint Management Areas (IJMAs) on North Stradbroke and Peel Islands.
Park management planning requires the development of a fire management strategy.
Given the destructive wild fires experienced in recent times on North Stradbroke Island, the joint management partners are required to urgently develop a strategy to manage and protect cultural and ecological values on the IJMAs, and minimise wildfire risk.
A suitably qualified contractor is required to both identify the cultural and ecological values and develop an appropriate fire management strategy to protect and conserve the integrity of this complex landscape consistent with the department’s fire management system.
