Documentation of Quandamooka Peoples Traditional Jarlo (fire) management knowledge for the Indigenous Joint Management Areas (IJ

The Department is seeking to engage QYAC to document the Quandamooka People’s traditional fire management knowledge and recommendations for inclusion into the Fire Management Strategy for the Indigenous Joint Management (IJM) Areas on North Stradbroke and Peel Islands.
This includes documenting the following:
• traditional fire management history;
• traditional and contemporary fire management objectives;
• traditional and contemporary knowledge in the use of Aboriginal land management practices;
• map(s) (and associated shapefiles) of Quandamooka cultural values and sites within the IJMA;
• requirements for integrating cultural sites, values and their protection into the jointly developed IJMFire Management Strategy;
• rationale and recommendations for the use of fire in restoration and regeneration of disturbed ecosystems and for pest management.
