Bridge Impact Detection Systems
Rail Bridges across SEQ (South East Queensland) are hit by trucks approximately once a week throughout the SEQ network. These bridge impacts have the possibility of causing massive delays to rail traffic and commuters alike. 52 trucks hit rail bridges last year delaying more than 90,000 passengers on approximately 300 trains.
This project involves the installation of tri axis accelerometers, CCTV and associated data transmission equipment to enable early detection of bridge impacts. Once an impact has been detected via the accelerometers an image and short video loop will be sent to the relevant Queensland Rail staff to assess the size and severity of the impact prior to inspectors attending site.
