The purpose of this invitation is to obtain competitive offers from suppliers who can supply, deliver, install and maintain a Transmission Electron Microscope with Analytical Capabilities for the Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis (CMM) at The University of Queensland’s (UQ), St Lucia Campus.
The proposed instrument will be versatile and will facilitate research and discovery in a range of fields including life sciences, hard and soft materials science and engineering, nanotechnology and molecular sciences. It will be specified with a high-resolution digital detection system and operate at a low voltage, which is essential for imaging of low contrast samples. It will also have analytical capabilities to measure essential chemical composition and crystallographic information within a specimen.
The instrument will be available for users (most typically post graduate students and early career researchers) across Queensland, with a range of prior experience and knowledge in EM methods, and will provide much needed resources and capacity in this advanced technology.
The proposed instrument has applications across several research disciplines. The estimated usage of the instrument (after installation and commissioning) is in excess of 4,000 hours per year.
