Pilot of the Casserole Club program in Townsville Local Government Area
Casserole Club (www.casseroleclub.com.au) is a web-based meal sharing application developed by Futuregov, a private UK-based organisation. The application connects volunteer ‘cooks’ who cook an extra portion of their meal, with ‘diners’, older people in the community who are less able to cook for themselves. The primary aim is to reduce the social isolation experienced by some older people.
The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services (DCCSDS) is allocating $159,000 (including GST) to engage a suitably qualified organisation operating in Townsville with capacity and capability to:
deliver a pilot program, including leasing the software and performing all administration and service delivery functions including telephone support, data handling and storage and administering criminal history checks; and
assess the success of the pilot’s service delivery model and demand in the location and make recommendations regarding its viability in Queensland.
