Little National Parks Roads & Firebreaks Works
The department of National Parks, Sport and Racing (NPSR) is seeking an experienced contractor to provide services for minor road works and fire breaks within the Littleton National Park which is situated along the Savanah Highway 100 kms west of Georgetown.
Littleton Station which comprises, 79000 Ha of various forest types was purchased as part of acquisitions under the National Reserve System and in November 2015 Littleton Station was gazetted as National Park.
Included in the acquisition were a homestead and other infrastructure which will need to be protected from fire.
There are currently approximately 195 kms of fence line that need to be checked and cleared for fire and maintenance purposes. There are also 130 kms of tracks, roads and fire breaks that need to be repaired or maintained activities.
The proposed project aims to repair existing roads, tracks and fire breaks to protect assets and assist with fire and weed control.
A portion of internal roads are badly deteriorated and will require re-establishment.
An assessment of all tracks, roads, fire breaks and fencing has been done by QPWS staff to ascertain requirements and prioritise which work is most critical.
The network of tracks, fire breaks and fence lines will be utilised to manage fire requirements and allow for a mosaic burn plan to be adopted and to control wildfires when needed. Maintaining access to fence lines will also aid repair work critical to managing livestock intrusions.
A number of the roads tracks and firebreaks are in poor condition and will require reinstating with a Grader or Dozer back to bare earth with drainage installed where required. All tracks and fence lines are along the footprint of existing tracks that require scraping and reforming back to bare earth.
