Queensland’s manufacturing industry needs to transform from broad based manufacturing to advanced manufacturing where businesses adopt world-best technologies, systems, practices and processes to produce low-volume, high-value customised products in a sustainable manner.  These businesses also need to focus on continuous improvement to identify and implement best practices and processes.  The Boosting Business Productivity Program (BBPP) was included as part of the Queensland Advance Manufacturing Industry Road Map and Action plan, released 14th December 2016. The BBPP includes information, advice and actions on areas including: new business models including servitisation, global supply chains, sustainable manufacturing process and business to business networking.

The Minister’s Industry Manufacturing and Advisory Group (IMAG) generally holds the view that business skills, including the ability to adopt innovative solutions, is a major issue for the manufacturing sector in Queensland.  Consultations on the development of the Advanced Manufacturing Roadmap have reinforced this view.

DSD will engage a contractor to develop business model innovation workshops for advanced manufacturers focusing on innovation practices, advanced business management skills and servitisation. It is expected that the course will enable participants to re-think their business model and examine ways to create new revenue streams; explore business models that integrate services to complement manufacturing capability; and examine revenue diversification strategies and turn these new ideas into action.
