The Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation (DSITI) is the Queensland Government’s lead agency for innovation, and the Advance Queensland strategy is investing $405 million into a suite of programs that support a new economy and job creation for Queensland’s future.
DSITI supports the Queensland Government’s innovation agenda through collaboration with the private sector and across governments to:
• support Queensland’s entrepreneurs, researchers, businesses and industries to successfully grow and compete in a global context through delivery of the Advance Queensland agenda
• influence national and state policies, programs and regulations to ensure they best contribute to a thriving innovation system in Queensland
• strengthen the unique role that DSITI can play in whole-of-government policy design and implementation and promoting innovation across Government.
DSITI has developed an innovative procurement program – Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) - based on successful international procurement programs delivered by the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The SBIR is an innovative procurement program, aimed at solving complex Queensland Government challenges which are released to be solved by the open market.
The SBIR program provides commercial opportunities for innovators while solving Queensland Government challenges. Through a competitive procurement process, Queensland Government challenges are released to be solved by the open market.
