| The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Biosecurity Queensland has been tasked on behalf of the Australian Government and State and Territory jurisdictions to manage and deliver the national cost-shared eradication program for the National Four Tropical Weed Eradication Program (NFTWEP).
Under the 2015-18 Response Plan the NFTWEP, aerial surveillance is required to detect large specimens of the target weed Miconia calvescens. The Department is trialling the use of aerial photography using a helicopter platform flying at low level of rainforest areas.
Requirements:
The Department requires the wet hire of a large helicopter (Bell 407), which will require the mounting of a small video camera utilised a mounting bracket which is FAA approved. The helicopter will undertake two low level flights over a pre-determined rainforest area at different times of day to ascertain the effectiveness of this aerial technique in detecting Miconia trees.
The trial will require approximately 6 hours of flight time at a rainforest location south of Cairns.
The trial is scheduled to occur in June 2017.
The pilot needs to be very experienced in weed surveillance, agricultural spraying or other low level operations.
