The approved Strategic Resources Exploration Program (SREP) includes an investment of $3.6 million to drive exploration for gas in the Georgina Basin, South Nicholson Basin, and Isa Superbasin. In order to deliver on these commitments, the Petroleum and Gas unit within the Geological Survey of Queensland will conduct work to enhance the subsurface knowledge of these basins. To optimise the value of existing data held, a project is proposed to utilise the SEEBASE methodology and approach, developed and exclusively provided by Frogetch Geoscience, to provide the following scope of work:
• A collated, quality-controlled, and standardised package of available geological geophysical, and petrophysical data sets within these basins;
• Processing and interpretation of depth to basement, basement terrains, crustal heat flow, basin development, structural architecture and tectonic evolution;
• Production of SEEBASE contours, grids, images and maps; and
• Delivery of a fully integrated data package in ArcGIS format.
An area of approximately 400,000 km2 is proposed for the study which includes the entirety of the known extents of the Isa Superbasin, South Nicholson Basin, and Georgina Basin in northwest Queensland as well as the Adavale Basin/Warrabin Trough in central Queensland. All of these basins have known petroleum systems and potential for gas and/or oil but generally low levels of overall exploration.
