Water Quality Sampling and Analysis
This project seeks to obtain a baseline understanding of the groundwater quality in the alluvial aquifer underlying the Lower Burdekin Irrigation Area (at a point in time), in order to inform (1) operational actions being considered as part of the Lower Burdekin Groundwater Strategy (LBGS) and (2) any additional monitoring required at a more representative temporal scale. The LBGS is seeking to address rising saline groundwater levels in the Lower Burdekin irrigation area. The results of this water quality sampling project will be used to investigate the potential to dewater bores and dispose of this water to nearby receiving waterways in a way that prevents or minimises environmental harm. The water quality results will also inform the potential for scheme-based conjunctive use in the project area.
