For the Provision of a Long Read Sequencer
The purpose of this Invitation to Offer is to obtain competitive offers from suppliers who can supply, deliver, install and maintain a long read sequencer. High quality genomic assemblies form a critical basis for understanding phenotype and function in biological systems. As a result of technological advancement within the field, genomic information is now seen as having profound potential to impact agricultural, medical and clinical practise into the future. In order to remain at the forefront of the genomics field UQ researchers require access to the latest genomic innovations. Many discoveries have been enabled with the use of short-read sequencing platforms but, while these platforms are appropriate for a wide range of applications, there are a number of areas where data generated from very long reads (>10,000bp) offers additional benefits.
The purchase of a long read sequencer is sought to enable discoveries across a variety of genomic research applications from de novo assembly of reference genomes to characterization of complex genomic populations.
Key research methodologies that will be enhanced/enabled at UQ include:
Whole genome analysis;
Transcriptome analysis;
Targeted analysis / candidate panel analysis;
Complex/heterogeneous population analysis; and
Epigenetics.
The objectives of this purchase is to:
Enable cutting edge research in an evolving area of genomic science;
Allow UQ to establish a centralised genomics innovation hub for the incubation of new technologies and techniques;
Allow a coordinated effort to facilitate genomic research across a variety of interest areas e.g. plant, human, animal, microbial;
Allow a coordinated effort to facilitate integration of genomic analysis with other biological technologies e.g. single cell analysis.
