| UQ is one of Australia’s leading research and teaching institutions and ranks among the world’s top-50 universities. UQ is increasingly becoming reliant on Information Technology and needs to have confidence in the confidentiality, integrity and availability/accessibility of its data. UQ holds a vast amount of data that is valuable and requires to be protected. As a public body, UQ also needs to meet legal and regulatory requirements involving handling personal data.
High profile cyber related threats have increased awareness of cyber risk including at Executive Boards and Audit Committee level.
Cyber Security is one of UQ’s top ten Non-Academic Risks under the UQ Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
Cyber security has been discussed at both the Senate Risk and Audit Committee (SRAC) and Vice-Chancellors Risk and Compliance Committee (VCRCC).
Cyber Security is included in the 2018 Internal Audit Plan approved by the SRAC. The 2018 Internal Audit Plan has identified that specialist resources are required to supplement in-house resources.
