VMWare View VDI and Citrix XenApp 6.5 Replacement
Queensland Rail currently utilises Citrix XenApp 6.5 and VMware View 4.6 for the delivery of Corporate Applications and Virtual Desktops.
The VMware View environment is used predominantly for providing remote support and development tools for Queensland Rail's supporting partners in addition to internal resources and is currently supporting approximately 120 concurrent users. This user base is expected to grow substantially over time (estimated 4000+ user base). The solution is required to be available 24x7x365.
The current VMware View version, which includes the VMware ESX hypervisor it was built on, has reached the end of mainstream support. In addition, the underlying physical compute infrastructure is approaching end of life and is unable to meet future server compute growth.
