The Department of Transport and Main Roads invites offers for the provision of specialist skills to enhance TMR systems and capabilities in relation to the application of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 (MQSHA).
~The Department of Transport and Main Roads undertake a range of activities across the State that involve the utilisation of quarried materials for infrastructure construction and maintenance programs. The material for these activities are sourced from TMR owned quarries/pits or commercially operated quarries.
A review of TMR’s business systems has identified opportunities to improve the systems and how they are implemented. In particular, establishing systems that balance the need to comply with both the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act (MQHSA) and the Work Health and Safety Act (WHSA), including when site activities potentially change regimes.
TMR manages pits/quarries across the state. As the holder of these pits/quarries TMR discharges obligations to RoadTek, * external Consultants or in some instances local government through contractual arrangements. Typical activities conduct by TMR at quarries/pits includes: extracting, screening, crushing, load and haul and dispatching road-base and gravel materials. Pits/quarries may also be maintained for the purpose of stockpiling material or with the intention of future use after extraction activities have ceased.
* RoadTek is a branch of TMR that provides construction and maintenance services across a large road network throughout the state in both urban and remote locations.
