| The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (acting through the National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program) has a requirement for long term kennel facilities to the Program in south-east Queensland for five (5) to seven (7) odour detection dogs, however these numbers are subject to review and it would be preferred that the Supplier would have facilities available for up to ten (10) dogs.
Kennel facilities must be provided in accordance with the specifications in the Routine Contract Details (attached). The use of dogs for Red Imported Fire Ant (RIFA) detection is subject to the legislation and therefore, all kenneling facilities must also adhere to this legislation - please refer to the attachments.
The Program requires 24 hour, seven days a week access to the dogs, which may be at short notice.
The Program also requires that these dogs are treated according to our specifications, with consideration that they are working dogs, not pets. Majority of interaction with the animals will be undertaken by Program staff, unless specified in this contract, or requested in writing by the Contract Manager, Senior Dog Handler or an authorized representative of the Program. For example, the Supplier may be requested to exercise the Program dogs during shutdown periods i.e. Christmas/New Year break or Easter.
