Nerang National Park mountain bike trail upgrade

QPWS intend to engage a suitably qualified Supplier to undertake the remediation and construction works on the selected illegal mountain bike trails in Nerang National Park, with the objectives of the contract work including:

·         Improving trail sustainability to cope better with high traffic flows and wet weather events;

·         Limiting maintenance resourcing requirements;

·         Linking existing trails to the greatest practical extent, without adversely impacting on conservation values, to improve riding experiences and trail connectivity.

QPWS does not wish to increase the number of technical trail features (such as jumps and bridges), however the replacement or upgrade of existing features will be considered as recommended. All advanced technical features are to provide an alternate B-line for the safety of less experienced riders. All features should be appropriate to the flow of the trail.

Watercourse crossings should be achieved with stone armouring rather than elevated structures and trails should be re-routed where required to achieve this objective.

Trail upgrade and construction works will be completed in two stages in accordance with funding over two financial years (2018–2019 and 2019–2020). The schedule of trail works will be negotiated with the successful offeror and confirmed in writing upon contract execution. Timeframes for the stages are:

·         Stage 1: contract execution to 31 May 2019;

·         Stage 2: 15 July to 29 November 2019.
