The Queensland Government is committed to working towards a low carbon future and recognises the importance of community engagement and education in helping to achieve that goal. This is reflected in pathway actions included in the two key strategies under the Queensland Government’s Climate Change Response: the Queensland Climate Transition Strategy and the Queensland Climate Adaptation Strategy. The importance of this commitment is further underscored in the Queensland Government’s Advancing Queensland Priorities to address climate change and help protect the Great Barrier Reef as well as through its responsibilities as a member of the Under2 Coalition.
The Queensland Government will be supporting Climate Week QLD from 2-8 June 2019, composed of a series of forums and events to energise local and global action on climate change. The Climate Reality Project will be conducting their Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training with the Hon Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, from 5-7 June 2019.
Recognising the importance of coordinated efforts between all sections of the community for effective climate action, and the need to build First Nations voices into decision-making when it comes to climate policy, the Queensland Government will be hosting an inaugural First Nations Climate Summit, with a focus on Queensland communities.
Supplier will be responsible for facilitating the First Nations Climate Summit as per the terms of Schedule 1- Section 2 and the terms of the Scoping Proposal forming part of and attached to this Contract.
