EVNT Breeding Place Assessment and Reporting

The Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy (DNRME), Infrastructure Management (IM), manages the former Collingwood Tin Mine, located approximately 30 km south of Cooktown, under its Abandoned Mine Lands Program (AMLP).

The northern third of the site (including the decant water dam and two thirds of the tailings dam) are located on Aboriginal freehold land (Lot 372 on Plan SP224308) owned by the Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation. Collingwood Road Reserve runs through the middle of the site with Shiptons Flat Road Reserve found to the west. Monkhouse Timber Reserve (Lot 165 on plan FTY1722) covers the southern section of the site.

DNRME intend to carry out mine remediation works across the site. These works may involve disturbing areas that may or may not contain fauna breeding place features. To inform these future works, a targeted EVNT fauna breeding place survey needs to be completed.
