| The Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women is seeking offers for Family Led Decision Making trial services
The purpose of the trial is to evaluate the effectiveness of Family Led Decision Making as an early intervention and independently managed approach led by trained Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander facilitators in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisations to:
a) reduce reoffending rates of children and young people particularly in matters of a first offence
b) reduce their contact with police,
c) reduce appearance at court and,
d) keep children and young people safe in family, community and culture.
The trial will commence on 1 May 2019 and will run through to 30 June 2020 with the trial to be reviewed for effectiveness in achieving its purpose.
Family led decision making is an independent diversionary approach to stop re-offending through the participation of family – for the young person to be accountable to their own community and work with their family on finding new ways to participate in important life and community activities, such as learning or earning (or both), agreement to seek specialist treatment, or engaging more in cultural and community events, sport and recreation, or address worries and concerns that can be fixed by the family’s efforts.
