Groundwater Bore Drilling

The Department requires groundwater drilling related works within the Hopeland region. Hopeland is located 30 km south of Chinchilla, within the geological Surat Basin. The Walloon Coal Measures are a subset of the Surat Basin and comprise two coal bearing formations, the Juandah Coal Measures and the Taroom Coal Measures which are separated by Tangalooma Sandstone. The UCG trials targeted the Macalister Upper (or A) and Lower (or B) seams of the Juandah Coal Measures. These target coal seams are unconformably overlain by Springbok Sandstone. Drilling programs on site reveal two notable water-bearing horizons; discontinuous lenses of higher permeability sandstone within the Springbok Sandstone and confined groundwater within the Macalister A and B coal seams. These works will complement previous groundwater drilling works completed by the department within the Hopeland Region.
