Collingwood Tin Ventilation Shaft Capping

Deliverable 1: Ventilation Shaft Capping

The Supplier is to include the provision of all plant, labour and materials necessary to complete the works in accordance with this schedule.

All works are to be completed in accordance with the details specified in the attached Mine Ventilation Shaft Capping design.

The Supplier must address working at heights in their response with specific details included on how the Supplier would control the risk associated with working at and around the shaft throughout all stages of the capping program. The response must include as a minimum, relevant experience and capability in working at heights and control mechanisms for working at heights.

Fence, Vegetation and Shaft Infrastructure Removal

The ventilation shaft is enclosed within an existing outer fence with a cage enclosing the shaft on the inside of a concrete ring beam. Vegetation has encroached on the shaft within the fenced area.

The safe and effective removal of the vegetation, outer fence, cage and shaft infrastructure are included in the Suppliers scope.

Effective temporary exclusion fencing must be erected prior to the existing fence being removed. The temporary fencing must prevent public access to the work area and must remain in place until the completion of the shaft capping program.

Soil Cover

Soil to be placed over the capped shaft, as detailed in the attached drawing, is to be sourced from the surrounding topsoil berm.

Site Access

The ventilation shaft is in a remote area, accessed by a track off Collingwood Road, Rossville that is in a poor state of repair with sections of steep, rugged terrain. Suppliers are to assess this track and consider all access options in preparing their submission. This track may provide light vehicle access to the shaft only.

It is considered that aerial transport of larger construction items and materials may present the most safe and direct access to the work area. The Supplier is requested to consider such transport options in their submission including the available work area at the ventilation shaft. A staging area shall be made available at the former Collingwood Tin mine site, should one be needed.
