Radiation Hazard Assessment
Technical Services (TS) manages abandoned mines within Queensland, including historic legacy sites and disclaimed mines. The area surrounding Herberton contains numerous tin mining areas, in addition to processing and tailings/mine waste features.
Radiation hazards associated with Tin tailings have not historically been well understood or assessed, however recent literature and studies have found it can be present and may require controls to be implemented to adequately manage public risk.
This study is to undertake an initial basic radiation hazard assessment, including a desktop assessment and a field component (with sampling), to inform the initial risk, and determine whether further work is required.
