Lamington National Park Circuit Track Work

In September 2019 the Binna Burra Section of Lamington National Park was impacted by the Sarabah Wildfire (SW).  As a result, a significant number of tree falls have occurred along the ‘Illinbah Circuit’, ‘Gwongoorool Track’ and ‘Lower Bellbird Circuit’ walking tracks.

Contractors are required to provide quotations for two (2) daily rates as follows:

  1. Ground based work with minimum four (4) crew members for the below mentioned ‘Illinbah Circuit’ requirements.  QPWS estimate 25-30 working days for a four (4) person crew, however it is the responsibility of the contractor to attend the mandatory site meeting(s) and provide a quotation based on their own assessment.

  1. Climbing work with minimum four (4) crew members for each of the below mentioned ‘Gwongoorool Track’ and ‘Lower Bellbird Circuit’ requirements.  QPWS estimate 15 working days for a four (4) person crew, however it is the responsibility of the contractor to attend the mandatory site meeting(s) and provide a quotation based on their own assessment.

Illinbah Circuit:

The Illinbah Circuit is 17km in its entirety.  The track has been assessed by QPWS rangers and approximately 120 tree fall sites have been identified.  Further, the most significant impacts have been identified on the 8km eastern side of the circuit as a result of high fire intensity.  The successful contractor will be engaged to clear all remaining fallen trees 1 metre from each edge of the track, whilst minimising large piles of tree debris.  Maps/images included below.

Gwongoorool Track:

The Gwongoorool Track is a 6km (return) track that forms part of the Illinbah Circuit.  QPWS rangers have removed all fallen timber and assessed the remaining effected areas.  There are approximately 20 sites where elevated hazards are still present that the successful contractor will be engaged to remove.  Elevated hazards must be cleared 10 metres from each edge of the track, or at an additional suitable distance from the walking track that achieves elimination of the risk and ensures walker safety.  Maps/images included below.

Lower Bellbird Circuit:

The Lower Bellbird Circuit is a 12km (return) track, however tree falls have occurred in a concentrated 4km section under the ‘Bellbird Cliffs’, which is best accessed from Rankins paddock.
