The Baal Gammon copper mine is located 8km west of Herberton, and is classified as an Abandoned Mine. Subsequently care and maintenance of the site is carried out by Technical Services within the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME).
Authorisation to carry out care and maintenance and rehabilitation activities is provided to DNRME Authorised Officers through provision of the Mineral Resources Act 1989 Section 344A.
The site currently has a CAT IT Loader and Takeuchi mini excavator, in addition to a number of diesel pumps, gensets, and a light vehicle.
The scope of works includes two components:
- Initially scoped activities
This relates to activities required to close out actions (non-compliances) which have been identified through a plant risk assessment on 25/02/2020. These activities include both servicing and repairs.
The initial maintenance requirements have been scoped by Heavy Diesel Mareeba based on the plant risk assessment report and a subsequent site inspection. Mechanical works will be carried out directly by Heavy Diesel Mareeba, while electrical works will be subcontracted (but be coordinated and invoiced through Heavy Diesel Mareeba).
This is spread across three quotations:
- HDM Quote 353 dated 01/04/2020
- HDM Quote 354 dated 01/04/2020
- BAE Quote 5183 dated 03/04/2020
- Future maintenance requirements
An allowance has been provided for future planned maintenance (servicing) or additional repairs identified at a later date. These works cannot be accurately defined at this time.
Specific quotations will be requested, prepared and assessed at a later date, as the need arises. Where agreed and accepted between parties, these allocated funds can be used for future maintenance requirements. However this remains discretionary, there is no obligation or commitment made.
