Collingwood Tin Tailing Storage Facility(TSF) and Decant Water Dam (DWD) Remediation

The Department of Resources, Technical Services team manages the Abandoned Mine Lands Program (AMLP) across Queensland. One of the sites within this program is the former Collingwood Tin Mine, located 35 kilometres south of Cooktown, in far north Queensland.

The former underground tin mine was disclaimed in 2015. Remediation of surface infrastructure to date has included removal of the Process Plant, general site waste and capping of the underground vent shaft and portal. However a Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and adjacent Decant Water Dam (DWD) remain present at the site, requiring decommissioning and remediation. Please see Appendix 1 Scope and Requirements for more detail.
