MJB16 Demolition of Amenities Building at Adams Beach

The Department of Resources, Technical Services team manages the Abandoned Mine Lands Program (AMLP) across Queensland. One of the sites within this program is the Adams Beach camping ground, located south of Dunwich on Minjerribah, Queensland. The site has been contaminated with mineral sand residues as a consequence of historical sand mining on the Island and is subsequently on the Environmental Management Register (EMR).

An Asbestos Survey and Register is available which identifies that approximately 39m2 of asbestos containing material exists in the amenities building at Adams Beach camping ground.  The scope of works includes removal of the asbestos containing materials, transferring the materials by appropriately licensed carrier for disposal.

Demolition of the amenities building (approximately 11m x 11m concrete besser brick and concrete slab) proceeds after the asbestos containing materials are removed.  Building materials that can be recycled and diverted from landfill are to be separated.  Materials for recycling and disposal are to be transferred from site and delivered to appropriately licensed facilities for recycling and disposal.

Weighbridge certificates and disposal receipts are to be provided for all wastes where possible and waste tracking documentation is to be provided for asbestos containing material.

The complete contract requirements are specified in Appendix 1.
