Provision of a Superficial and Orthovoltage (combined) XRay Unit
Cancer Care Services at RBWH is the largest cancer care service in Queensland. The service encompasses Medical Oncology, Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant, the Queensland Haemophilia Centre and Radiation Oncology, and provides all treatment modalities within these streams.
A single x-ray unit is required to provide both superficial and orthovoltage treatment energies for the treatment of surface skin cancers and more deeply located cancers. The unit will be used to provide low energy x-rays in the range of 70 to 100 kV with a range of filtration levels to vary the treatment depth using applicators ranging from 1.5 cm to 10 cm diameters. For orthovoltage treatment the unit is required to deliver a therapeutic x-ray beam of 300 kV and 10 mA with a range of filtration and applicators sizes up to 20 x 20 cm.
