The Queensland Government is seeking Proposals to engage a Principal Consultant in relation to the Refirbusment of the Toowoomba Courthouse project.
Located at 159 Hume Street within the Toowoomba Justice precinct, the current Toowoomba Courthouse was constructed in 1976. The courthouse building houses three Magistrates Courts and two District and Supreme Court rooms, with support and administrative workspaces.
Growth in demand and additional service requirements have determined that the Toowoomba Courthouse requires refurbishment and expansion to meet service needs. The layout is inefficient and the building does not have capacity to adequately deliver departmental and stakeholder services.
The scope for the Toowoomba Courthouse includes:
- internal refurbishment to ground floor and some first-floor areas; and
- the extension of the first floor to the rear of the site over an existing open carpark
- a new courtroom, Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) facilities, meeting rooms and amenities. Jury facilities, vulnerable witness and other facilitates.
- Fitout of a temporary office facility to accommodate partial administrative and customer services
The works are to be staged respecting that the existing courthouse is to remain operational.
Works are to be partially undertaken out of hours to mitigate disruption to services.
