The Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce (WSJT) Hear Her Voice – Report 2: Women and girls’ experiences across the criminal justice system (Report 2) outlines key recommendations to government for reform to improve Queensland’s criminal justice system for women and girls who are victim-survivors of sexual violence, or who are accused persons or offenders.
The Taskforce made 188 recommendations to government, including two recommendations (Rec 1 and 8) for broad community education and awareness campaigns, which the Queensland Government has accepted and agreed to deliver.
As part of the Queensland Government’s response to the Hear Her Voice Report 2, the government will progress amendments to move to an affirmative model of consent, which will better reflect community expectations of equality and mutual respect in sexual relationships and will drive changes in the way sexual offences are prosecuted and defended. Other legislative amendments will recognise ‘stealthing’ as rape and reform the laws of evidence and procedure as they apply to sexual offences.
DJAG is seeking the services of a research supplier to guide the government response to Report 2, Recommendations 1 and 8 through:
- conducting state-wide social and market research
- developing and delivering an overarching sexual violence and affirmative sexual consent communication strategy, including stakeholder consultation and an evaluation plan.
