| On 29 December 2022, the Premier of Queensland announced a new 18-month Fast Track Sentencing Pilot (pilot) in Brisbane, Southport, Cairns and Townsville Childrens Courts. The pilot has commenced in all four locations. DJAG is leading the pilot implementation. The pilot aims to reduce the number of mentions in court and the length of time required to finalise a charge in the Childrens Court (Magistrate Court).
DJAG is seeking to engage a suitably qualified Supplier to undertake an evaluation of the pilot to ensure it has best captured the drivers of delay in Children’s Court (Magistrate Court) proceedings, measured additional resource impacts on the system, informed targeted opportunities for overall system improvement, and has informed best practice for the efficient conduct of Children’s Court (Magistrate Court) proceedings at a local and/or state-wide level.
