| Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate, and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.
One of the assets Queensland Hydro is working on is the Borumba Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) Project. The Borumba dam site is located approximately 13 kilometres [by road] southwest of Imbil and approximately 80 km [by road] north of Kilcoy, inland of the Sunshine Coast.
As the project progresses into the next stage, there will be an increased volume of traffic onsite. To ensure the safety of all staff and contractors onsite, some civil works to Walkers Top Road are required.
Walkers Top Road provides access from the lower reservoir area to the proposed upper reservoir area and is being used on a weekly basis by Contractors that are currently engaged by Queensland Hydro on the Borumba PHES. The condition of the track is considered very poor and earthworks are required to minimise safety risk. The track is unsealed and rutted out due to past weather events in many locations. Sections of this track navigate up a steep mountain side and are narrow in places with an exposed edge.
These civil works are required to ensure that the ongoing testing and development of the Borumba PHES project can progress.
Thus, Queensland Hydro is looking to engage a local earthmoving contractor to deliver the road improvement civil construction work packages across Walkers Top Road. The works will be delivered similar a to “wet hire” type arrangement. The successful contractor may be required to perform ad-hoc work under this contract to support the projects safety needs.
