| In July 2021 Brisbane was awarded Host City for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of the Olympic Host Contract executed between the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) and the Australian Government / Queensland Government / Brisbane City Council a comprehensive transport strategy is to be developed and implemented to support the Brisbane 2032 (B2032) Games.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), working in partnership with other transport stakeholders, will have a lead role in the development and delivery of the Brisbane 2032 Transport Strategy, including strategic planning, operational planning and implementation of plans for:
- Delivery of new and enhanced infrastructure and services to support Games-time operations infrastructure
- Passenger transport to support spectator and workforce access to venues
- Road network prioritisation (Games Route Network) for Athletes and Games Family vehicles
- Multi-modal transport coordination and incident management
- Travel Demand Management
- Local traffic and pedestrian management (in conjunction with local councils).
TMR has established two key governance bodies to oversee the coordination of its transport activities for B2032. These are:
Transport Program Board (TPB) –responsible for the overall alignment of B2032 Plans with TMR's strategy and preparedness of TMR for Games impacts.
Program Control Group (PCG) –tasked with managing the delivery of the transport program associated with Brisbane 2032.
