The Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) is seeking to engage a Supplier to conduct an independent review of LAQ’s existing grants of aid and to:
complete a comprehensive analysis of applications for legal aid taking into account geographical and other demographic information in order to inform recommendations. This should include:
basis for approval or rejection of legal aid
appeal avenues/rights of review including how these are communicated and accessed
current means and merits tests
recommend opportunities to improve priorities, policies and guidelines, in line with other jurisdictions and best practice; and
determine the adequacy of existing funding or if new grants of aid are required to ensure equitable access.
