The Queensland Government is seeking Proposals for a Project Manager for the Charters Towers Hospital Phase 2 Preliminary Business Case (CTHR Ph2 PBC).
Charters Towers Hospital is part of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) located 135 kilometres west of Townsville. It is a Clinical Services Capability Framework (CSCF) level 3 service incorporating an Emergency Department with seven treatment spaces and 20 inpatient beds (plus five bed alternatives). When required the health service can provide for imminent birthing and procedural capacity. In addition to the hospital-based services and facilities, THHS also provides many community-based services including a range of mental health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, child health services, community nursing, specialist telehealth and antenatal and postnatal services.
The Charters Towers Hospital was built in the 1940s and has little to no substantive improvement since its initial construction. In December 2016, THHHS presented a Gate 2a submission to Queensland Health’s Investment Review Committee with a P70 cost estimate of $55 million for a refurbishment or $64 million for a new build. The project was put on hold pending a funding commitment.
As part of the 2020 election commitment to the THHS, the government is providing funding for both a PBC and a detailed business case.
