Section 1

Tender Overview

The Queensland Government’s announcement in September 2022 of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan (QEJP) outlines a number of key renewables targets and actions, including 70% renewable energy by 2032 and 80% renewable energy by 2035 to delivery clean, reliable and affordable energy on Queenslanders.  The QEJP has prescribed a significant transmission investment across Queensland requiring the right skill sets to build new clean energy infrastructure and industries.

To successfully position Queensland workers and regional communities to capitalise on the pipeline of clean energy investment, Powerlink is seeking to establish a contract for the construction of a Regional Training Centre and Transmission Hub in Gladstone.

Powerlink will be approaching the market with a fully detailed design of the Training Centre and Transmission Hub, which will include a high voltage transmission training centre and will be inviting tenders from the open market for a ‘construct only’ contract.

Powerlink expects to partner with a suitably qualified supplier and encourages the engagement of local suppliers (contractors and consultants) as well as the engagement of and employment opportunities for local Indigenous people to nurture and sustain growth of Indigenous businesses.

Powerlink has a strong focus on local participation and engagement of community for this project.

The tender is expected to be released to open market in Q1 2024.
