Section 1

Tender Overview

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service are seeking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced Architect, as the Principal Contractor, to complete the design phase including site analysis, geotechnical testing and developed design and construction documentation along with facilitating construction of the agreed design.

The intention is to develop the design and facilitate construction of a new entry area for the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre. An initial concept has been developed and may be utilised as the starting point for this design and construct project. The redevelopment is to:

  • meet Australian standards and provide a safe and functional entrance with equitable access.
  • optimise visibility of the visitor centre and café entry to visitors entering the site
  • enhance visitor experience
  • minimise maintenance requirements.
  • be reflective of the Park’s natural environment and design character.

The design phase of the project is to be completed no later than 30 June 2022 while construction is to be completed no later than 30 September 2022.

Proposed infrastructure should be contemporary and prominent while maintaining minimal intrusion upon the ecological and aesthetic integrity of the site. The natural should dominate the man made while also managing anticipated increased visitation traffic. Design must provide updated and appropriate facilities consistent with the Landscape Class Setting (LCS) and the QPWS Site and Facilities Design Manual.

This engagement will see the completion of the design phase including site analysis, geotechnical testing, design development supported with an estimate for construction costs and final construction.

Note: The Park’s visitor centre, wildlife centre and Café are to remain open during the construction phase. In consultation with the successful Principal Contractor, changes will be made to visitor access points to ensure safe access during demolition and construction.
