Section 1

Tender Overview

QPWS is looking to engage a suitably qualified Landscape Architectural to provide professional planning services for David Fleay Wildlife Park. The forward plan is to scope the physical boundaries of the site providing landscape architectural analysis, concept design for wildlife and visitor infrastructure and cost estimates. The documentation will be suitable for further progression to detailed design and construction.

The site for the most part has outdated park facilities, many of which have exceeded their useful life. These facilities often do not meet the current levels of service and may not be in keeping with current QPWS facility standards. Some of the park infrastructure at this site comprises a combination of the different generations of park facilities, thereby creating an inconsistent Park language. In some cases, the site layout does not meet current standards such as PWD (People with Disabilities) access, crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) as well as general access and egress through and across the site.

Several identified site challenges including acute lack of sense of arrival due to location of visitor car park and distance to park entry. The David Fleay Wildlife Park has an established identity that stems from the leading work of Dr David Fleay. Presentation of the park as a working facility with “real” QPWS rangers contributes to its identity. Appropriate areas for the delivery of presentations/shows are vital to the future of the park as a high-quality educational facility. The provision of a safe environment for the public and staff is fundamental.

Refer to the Project Brief for detailed works specifications (Schedule 1).
