Section 1

Tender Overview

The Queensland Government is seeking Proposals from a qualified contractor/consortium to deveop a road and fireline strategy for K'gari (Fraser Island). The strategy will need to identify the required fire infrastructure (particularly firelines and helicopter landing sites) as required to ensure appropriate and adequate fire management operations (prescribed and response) are implemented on this World Heritage sand island. In considering the fire infrastructure on K’gari, this work needs to integrate with and consider the road infrastructure provided on the island for general access (visitors, residents and staff) and fire operational needs.

The key deliverables for this project are:

  • A hierarchical (spatial) map of linear (fireline and roads) infrastructure and associated fire infrastructure (outlined in Section 4.1) for K’gari
  • A generalised maintenance schedule or intervention levels for all asset types explored in this project
  • Standard maintenance requirements (guidelines) for firelines and/or road infrastructure, where the existing
QPWS&P standards don’t adequately accommodate the maintenance requirements for such assets on
K’gari (due to the sand environment and the visitation levels)
  • Draft K’gari Road and Fireline Strategy considering fire operations, capturing all elements of Section 4.1
  • Summary table/s of how QPWS&P’s comments were included/considered in the final documents
  • Final updated K’gari Road and Fireline Strategy, including maps considering fire operations based on
comments provided in the review process.
  • Spatial layer of the hierarchical road/fireline network (current and desired), mapped at segment level and linked with the relevant fields of information.
