Tender Overview

Griffith University is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for Superintendent services on the new N82 building proposed for the Nathan Campus.

Currently referred to as the Arrivals Building (N82), the new building provides an opportunity to expand the use of modern, multifunctional teaching and research space. The building is proposed to provide flexible spaces that support leading pedagogies, are attractive to prospective students (international and domestic) and support the attraction and retention of leading academic staff. A summary of the types of accommodation in the building are as follows:
•    Common Teaching Space including Technology Enabled Active Learning (TEAL), Seminar rooms and student breakout spaces;
•    Research Space for the School of Applied Psychology (SoAP), Griffith Institute for Educational Research (GIER), Griffith Criminology Institute (GCI) including the Centre for Investigative Interviewing (CII), Griffiths Youth Forensic Services (GYFS) and a secure data analysis Lab;
•    Specialist Teaching Spaces for Education and Professional Studies;
•    Event and Exhibition spaces for Professional, Industry Engagement and Students;
•    Academic and Professional Workplace for the SoAP Criminology and Criminal Justice, Education and Professional Studies and the office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Arts, Education and Law;
•    A cafe, Student Services, and a range of activated informal learning spaces.
Key Design features of the building are as follows:
•    Approximately 13,000 m2 of Usable Floor Area (UFA) and 23,000 Gross Floor Area (GFA0
•    A full height atrium, which Is naturally ventilated andincludes balconies at each level that provide Informal learning spaces for students and break out working spaces for staff;
•    Mixed mode air conditioning with louvres to the external façade that will open when conditions are temperate to naturally ventilate the building;
•    A complex structure with a mix of traditional reinforced concrete, post tensioned concrete, pre-cast panels, steel trusses and cross-laminated timber;
•    A complex, doubled skinned glass façade;
•    Connections to adjacent buildings and an activated public realm at the ground plane;
•    Targeting a 5-Star Greenstar Rating under the Greenstar Buildings v1 tool;

The new building will be built on the current site of N13 – Environment 1 which will be decanted by others prior to demolition in mid-2023. The demolition includes separation from adjacent buildings and the removal of asbestos.
Completion target is set for the end of 2025 to enable decanting of the Mt Gravatt campus and relocation into Nathan for the commencement of Trimester 1 2026 (February).
